Assuring students in the Clinton School District are college and career ready the day they graduate from high school is one of the district’s highest priorities. College and career readiness preparation begins the first day of school, not the first day of high school, the first day of school.
On February 3, the new Clinton Early Childhood Education Center held its official ribbon cutting. The center is located in what used to be the annex just west of the current Middle School and it will be the new home of Cardinal Pre-School.
Early education is the foundation for a successful student and the Clinton Early Childhood Education Center will provide students and parents enhanced pre-school offerings. Let me share a few statistics about students who attend pre-school:
They are 29% more likely to graduate high school
They consistently perform better on standardized tests
Reduce grade repetition – 44% less likely
Early Education Results in Responsible Adults
Reduces crime – students who don’t receive early education are 70% more likely to be arrested.
Lowers rate of teen pregnancy
Leads to higher wages – 33% higher
Early Childhood Education Results in Stronger Communities
Every $1 invested in quality early childhood education, saves taxpayers $7 (reduced welfare, criminal justice services, etc.)
Improves efficiency in the classroom – direction following, problem solving
There is a need for more pre-school offerings in Clinton and the new Early Childhood Education Center will help meet the demand. The most recent census data from DESE shows that there are 366 pre-school aged children in Clinton. 187 of those students are served in pre-schools or child care programs which leaves 179 students not receiving pre-school services.
Cardinal Pre-school historically has a waiting list of between 20 and 60 students and 97.5% of Cardinal Pre-school parents surveyed stated they would be interested in pursuing a full-day preschool option.
In time, the new facility will create the opportunity for more children to have access to pre-school services and will allow for more full day offerings.
It’s a great day to be a Cardinal!
