Earlier in the week Jessie Goodbrake, GVMH Marketing Director, and I assisted with the Home Delivered Meal Program through the Clinton Senior Center. The Home Delivered Meal Program is a valuable service for many in our community who otherwise might not have access to a nutritious hot meal.
This was my first time to participate and the process is very well-coordinated. Jessie and I showed up at the Senior Center and we were provided a map, instruction and both hot and frozen meals. At each stop we delivered a fresh cooked, hot meal along with fruit and milk. We also dropped off two frozen meals at each stop. The frozen meals are intended to be placed in the freezer and used in the event inclement weather strikes and meals aren’t able to be delivered on a particular day this winter.
Up until a couple of years ago meals were delivered by paid drivers but funding reductions over the past few years have required the Senior Center to rely upon volunteers to do the home deliveries. Jessie and I completed our deliveries in about an hour and we’ll be much faster next time because now we know what we’re doing. At each stop the meal recipients were very appreciative of the service and grateful for our time and effort.
If you’re interested in volunteering for a worthwhile cause and helping your community please contact Georgia Randall by phone at the Senior Center (660) 885-3482 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The day Jessie and I volunteered the temperature was a chilly 27 degrees – hair isn’t an option for me but a stocking cap would have been a great idea!
