Sometimes I run out of ideas for this blog so today’s post will be very random.
I’m so ready for winter to end. It seems like this year’s winter has been especially cold with limited periods of relief. I used to tell people that when it snowed in Missouri it never lasted more than a couple of days. I used to tell people that when it got really cold it was followed by a couple of days of 50 degrees. Not this winter, it has been cold followed by more cold.
My youngest son is starting to crawl. Everything in the house must be locked up and placed out of reach. I going to have to rely on my 5-year-old son to open the child safety locks on kitchen cabinets and drawers because I can’t do them without injuring myself.
The Powerball was close to $500 million last week. I didn’t win but my chances of winning were lower than some because I didn’t buy a ticket. The lottery is a strange thing. It’s fun to dream about how you’d spend $500 million and you dream that all of your problems in life would go away but the truth is I believe your problems would just be getting started.
I believe $500 million would ruin most children. It’s one thing to earn $500 million through hard work and innovation, it’s another for it to be given to you. If you were given $500 million would you keep your day job? Probably not. How would your kids learn the value of work and develop a work ethic because the truth is they would want for nothing. Who would you hang out with? Think about your current friends, my guess is most of them have similar lifestyles and incomes as you. How many friends do you have the could keep up with a $500 million dollar lifestyle? Probably not many.
If I won $500 million I’d probably give most of it away. I’d support charities and causes. I’d donate to the GVMH Foundation and fund the upcoming hospital expansion project. I’d try to do some good with the money. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea I’d blow plenty too. I’m a pilot so I’d buy an airplane I have no ability to fly. I’d go to Vegas and place a couple stupid bets. I’d travel to a few exotic locations. I’d do some stupid stuff but for the life of me I can’t think of enough stuff to do to spend $500 million and that’s because I can’t really comprehend how much money $500 million really is…
One last random thought, is it just me or do roundabouts bother you too? I was in Kansas City last weekend and one of the highways I was traveling on had 5 roundabouts. I don’t like them, I’d rather stop and look for traffic and wait my turn to enter or exit a highway. I’m sure there are plenty of studies to support the efficiency and traffic flow improvements associated with roundabouts but I’m not sold.
I told you this post would be random. Have a great weekend.
