Commitment to technology at GVMH

HIMSS Analytics is pleased to announce Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) has achieved Stage 6 on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Adoption ModelSM .  HIMSS Analytics is a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

“HIMSS Analytics congratulates GVMH for leading the way toward health IT adoption,” said John Hoyt, Executive Vice President, HIMSS Analytics. “Stage 6 represents a level of sophistication that only 669 US hospitals have reached to date.”

The EMR Adoption Model was developed to evaluate the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems in hospitals. Hospitals work their way through stages 0-7 with the intent of reaching stage 7, which represents the most advanced electronic patient record environment. GVMH is recognized for having achieved a significant advancement in their IT capabilities and successfully addressing current industry transformations. Stage 6 hospitals have a significant advantage in their ability to assure quality of care, patient safety, clinician support and recruitment, and competitive marketing. These hospitals are well positioned to use their electronic record keeping systems to provide data to key stakeholders (payers, the government, physicians, consumers, and employers) to support electronic health record environments and health information exchanges.

GVMH has implemented a broad range of information system capabilities over the past several years including the Meditech Electronic Medical Record, a voice recognition system for improved accuracy and efficiency, and electronic medical imaging pictures that eliminate the need for hardcopy film.

Chief Executive Officer Randy S. Wertz commented on the award by saying, “GVMH is committed to providing the information system capabilities needed to support exceptional care and service.  Following the receipt of the Missouri Quality Award this year, we are honored to be recognized as being among the leading hospitals in the nation in utilizing electronic medical record systems to support quality care and patient safety.”

GVMH will be recognized at the HIMSS14 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida in February of 2014.

I must respectfully disagree with part of your post. Voice recognition may provide increased efficiency in getting the documents to the chart faster, but at what cost??? Speaking as a transcriptionist, I have been reviewing the P-Doc charts for Dr. Dailey and their accuracy, compared to the accuracy on our dictated/transcribed charts, is pretty poor.
