Give this guy a “hand”

GVMH is pleased to announce that Eric Curnutte, MOTR/L, has recently obtained his credentials as a Certified Hand Therapist, or CHT.  This designation makes Eric a specialist in rehabilitating the structure of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder girdle.   Eric has been an Occupational Therapist with Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare for almost 6 years, providing care in the outpatient and hospital settings.  Eric received his Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Missouri in 2007 and over the past two years Eric completed an advanced training program with Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA for further learning and preparation for the CHT examination.

To become a certified hand therapist, an Occupational or Physical Therapist has to have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours of direct practice in hand therapy.  In addition, the therapist must successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation.  The certification examination is offered just twice per year, and the pass rate for the test is less than 60%.

Earning the credentials of CHT is no small feat.  Only 2% of therapists in the nation have obtained this designation, and GVMH is pleased to support Eric in attaining this high level of professional achievement.  To schedule an appointment with Eric at our Clinton location, please call GVMH Rehab and Wellness at 660-890-7190.

I know Eric well and I’m very proud of his accomplishment.  Becoming a Certified Hand Therapist is a huge achievement and having a Certified Hand Therapist on staff is huge for the patients requiring hand therapy in the surrounding area.  No longer do people need to drive to Kansas City or Springfield to receive this very specialized and sought after service.

Congratulations Eric!  Feel free to send Eric a note a ecurnutte@gvmh.org
