New job for Flipper

As most of you know we recently celebrated the birth of our second son right here at GVMH.  Since I’m still in birth mode you’ll understand why a recent story caught my attention.

I read a story about a couple who flew from North Carolina to Hawaii so that they could have a “dolphin attended” birth.  Apparently there is a group in Hawaii promoting the benefits of underwater birth in the presence of dolphins.  The providers claim to have decades of research showing that underwater birth is better for the baby and the mother due to the buoyant effects of water.   They also claim that children born in the water with dolphins present tend to develop faster over the first 6 months of life.

I’m not about to get into a debate over the validity of their claims but I can see a whole new tourism marketing effort for our area.  “Truman Lake water births in the presence of catfish”!
