Ryan and Samantha Slater from Warsaw, MO were doing what many people were doing on a weekend–preparing for a family gathering, barbecue and fireworks show in Calhoun. Ryan left on his motorcycle to get some last minute items at the store and Samantha was making a list of fireworks. She only stuck her head inside the door for a few moments before she realized that her two and a half year old son, Parker, was missing. We all know how fast toddlers can be.
Samantha looked outside and sprinted across the yard as she found that Parker got through the pool gate to the four foot above ground pool. She pulled Parker from the water and called for help. Wes Coskey EMT & Sheri Meyer EMT-P, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Ambulance, were quickly dispatched to the scene with a response time of 6 minutes.
Parker was carried to the ambulance where EMS personnel performed life saving measures for several minutes. First responders, Angie Dittmer and Bryan Allen were also on the scene. After a few minutes of advanced life support, Parker regained a steady strong pulse and the Life Flight Eagle crew transferred him to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Wes and Sheri performed a successful pediatric resuscitation.
Today, Parker is happy, healthy and full of life thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. Ryan and Samantha were all smiles as Parker honked the horn on the Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Ambulance. Thank you to Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare EMS for their quick response and professional emergency staff!
