Blog inspiration – the inner sumo

So this week I’ve hit a blog wall.  I try to do several blogs one evening a week and have them to post throughout the rest of the week but I’ve developed a case of writers block.

Some of the blogs I’ve done have been humorous and entertaining, others have been boring and educational but most tend to fall somewhere in between.  I racked my brain for a topic for today’s blog but I just couldn’t come up with anything so I went to the internet for help.

On the MSN home page I found it, inspiration for today’s blog.  One of the lead stories on MSN was “‘Fat Man’ sets marathon world record”, sounds like a blog topic if I’ve ever heard one!

Here’s the story; Self-proclaimed “Fat Man” Kelly Gneiting set a Guinness World Record for the heaviest person to complete a marathon, taking nine hours, 48 minutes and 52 seconds to finish the Los Angeles event Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The 400-pound sumo wrestler out of eastern Idaho smashed the old mark of 275 pounds and easily bettered his own unofficial personal best of 11:52:11.

“I’d like to see the Kenyan improve his marathon time by two hours,” Gneiting joked.

Gneiting, a three-time U.S. national champion sumo wrestler, is 6-foot tall with a 5-foot waist. And stamina is certainly a strong suit: He once ate eight Big Macs at a single sitting.

He jogged the first 8 miles Sunday and walked the final 18 miles, and said he had no idea how long he had left from mile 10 on because he became delirious.

According to the report, he had to obey traffic signals and walk on sidewalks for much of the race because the roads had already reopened.

“I was really struggling in the last five miles,” he said, “but I said to myself, ‘If I have to crawl, I will.’

So thank you Mr. Gneiting, you are the inspiration for today’s blog.  If you can find the intestinal fortitude to complete a marathon, I can summon the will power to do a blog today…and by the way, I just did!

P.S.  I’m more impressed that Mr. Gneiting once ate 8 Big Macs in one sitting.  A single Big Mac has 576 calories and 32.5 grams of fat.

In one sitting Mr. Gneiting consumed 4,608 calories and 2,336 of those calories were from fat!  I wonder how many marathons it takes to “run off” 8 Big Macs?
