The Leapfrog Group is a patient watchdog organization that assists patients and employers in selecting the best places to receive services. Places where value outweighs cost and safety is important. The Leapfrog Group recently published a report grading hospitals on safety and you can visit their website and get a letter grade for every hospital in the country relative to safety. It can be looked up here.
GVMH received an “A” rating, the highest possible rating for patient safety. Only 18 hospitals in the State of Missouri received an “A” rating. GVMH’s “A” rating wasn’t an accident. Staff and Physicians work hard every day to provide patients high quality care. Great work everyone!
Leapfrog’s effort to provide a single letter grade based on 26 different measures of safety is part of an effort to help consumers evaluate medical providers. Leapfrog calculated its grades using publicly-available data, including the frequency of blood line infections, falls in the hospital, bedsores and the consistency that hospitals follow recommended methods of care, such as discontinuing an antibiotic within 24 hours of surgery.
The individual hospital scores can be looked up on Leapfrog’s web site. A breakdown of how Missouri hospitals did is tabulated below.
Number of Missouri Hospitals in each letter grade: As you can see, GVMH is one of only 18 Missouri hospitals to receive the highest possible grade.
