Punt, Pass and Kick

The Fall Prevention Team at GVMH is launching a program to promote staff engagement with patient safety. The program is called “Don’t Pass/Don’t Punt” and it’s really simple. If any staff person is walking by a room and a call light is on or a patient on fall precautions is trying to get out of bed or a chair we ask that staff, regardless of title or responsibility, attend to the patient. No one PASSES a patient room with a call light on, no one PUNTS the responsibility to someone else.

We are all responsible for patient safety so when you see a call light on stick your head in the room and ask the patient how you can assist. Be sure you don’t PASS the room, PUNT the responsibility and KICK the can down the road.

Remember the famous words of Smokey Bear “Only you can prevent forest fires” and like forest fires “Only you can prevent patient falls”.
