Writer’s block

Sometimes I run out of things to write about on this blog so this post is going to be random.

GVMH staff have made a commitment to patient satisfaction and it shows.  We look at top box ratings, those customers who give us the highest possible ratings i.e. a 10, on various survey questions by our customer satisfaction survey vendor, HeatlhStream.  In the ED 62% of our patients gave us a 10, in the inpatient setting 74% of our patients gave us a 10 and in the outpatient setting 82% of our patients gave us a 10.  Each of these areas are up compared to the previous quarter and it’s not by accident.  Staff are doing a lot of the right things to cause improvement in patient perception of care.  Awesome work.

Speaking of great work in customer satisfaction.  GVMH’s food services have once again been rated at the 99th percentile nationally for quality and variety of food.  If you’ve got to be sick you may as well eat well.

I don’t understand gas prices.  Early in the summer the price was up, it went down and now it’s going back up again.  The price of oil is $10 per barrel less today than it was 6 months ago…I just don’t get it.

I may need to get a second job to pay my utility bills from this summer.  I look forward to fall.  I enjoy the change of season and I like to see the trees change, I don’t believe we will see much fall color this year.  Many trees have already started dropping leaves and those that haven’t look bad.

I got home from work around 7:00 pm one day last week and my son was in the back yard.  He saw me and said “So Dad, how was your day”, I responded with “It was really good, how was yours”.  His reply; “Whew, it was busy, busy.  I was going all day long”.  Really, I mean he’s 3 and he goes to day care…

Every once in a while something happens and you realize that you may actually be a good parent after all or in spite of it all.  We make a point to pray before supper each evening and our son leads the prayer.  The prayer is usually “God is good, God is great, let us thank him for our food.  Amen.” but the other night he decided to ad lib and the prayer was this “Thank you for my Mom, thank you for my Dad, thank you for Maggie (dog), thank you for Rain (d0g) and please be with XXX (a close family friend who I won’t name but is in the hospital) she’s really sick. Amen.”

It’s official, there are a lot of tree stumps in Truman Lake.  If you don’t believe me, drive over the Grand River Bridge just South of Clinton and look to the West – it’s like a tree mine field.

Football season is about to kick off.  Highschool football is underway, college football gets going this weekend and the pros will tee it up in a couple of weeks.  As most of you know I’m a MIZZOU Alum and I’m anxious about to see them take the field in a new conference.  The SEC is arguably the best football conference in the country and every week is a challenge.  Football is different in the South, it’s not a game it’s an institution and fans are fanatical, they live and breathe it.  The biggest challenge for Missouri fans will be matching the intensity of the other fan bases.  I hope to attend a game at each of the SEC stadiums over the next few years and I have a trip lined up this year.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

Speaking of football, I hope the Chiefs are good this year.  Kansas City deserves at least one good professional sports franchise.

Enjoy your Labor Day Holiday.
