8 second ride…Olde Glory Days style

Olde Glory Days festivities begin June 28 so we’re just a few weeks away.  The theme this year is “Great Celebration, By Nature” and Olde Glory Days is an event that defines our community and attracts scores of visitors to the free concerts, parade, mid-way, arts show, food vendors, exhibits and fireworks display.  It’s become tradition that large sums of cash and high value prizes are given away before the headline concert on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.  This year’s no different and contestants will have a chance to win $50,000 each night!

There will be a lot of activity on the square but one “activity” will stand out amongst all others.  8 Seconds Productions will have a mechanical bull on the square and anyone can ride for $5.00.  The owner of the bull assures me that anyone from 2 years to 80 years can ride and the bull will only “buck” as hard as you ask and though the name is 8 seconds the rides are closer to 5 minutes.

The bull has also become involved in a fundraiser for local charities and you can see the local “celebrity” of your choice make a fool of himself.  I use the word “celebrity” loosely because the term “sucker” may be a better choice.

The Chamber Ambassadors have created a fun event to raise money for several local charities, and they’re kicking it off at this year’s Olde Glory Days.

For just $1 per vote, you can choose which local “celebrity/sucker” you want to ride a mechanical bull on Saturday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m.  A portion of the proceeds will be split between local charities of the celebrities choosing.

Celebrity contestants include David Lee of KDKD, Greg Lee of KCPL, Craig Thompson of Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, Steven Harvey of Schreiber Foods, Sheriff Kent Oberkrom of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department and Coach Aaron Potter of Clinton High School.

Put your money in the designated barrel located by the mechanical bull during Olde Glory Days or go to one of the following locations beforehand:

  • Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Golden Valley Country Mart
  • Hawthorn Bank (2nd Street location)
  • Golden Valley Memorial Hospital

8 Second Productions and Russell Harrington offer the best mechanical bull riding experience for one of our lucky contestants!  Let’s see how long the celebrity contestant can last. You can vote as many times as you would like for $1 per vote and then watch the fun on Saturday evening.

As you now know I’m one of the “suckers” who has agreed to participate and any funds I raise will go to the GVMH Foundation.  I’ve also appointed myself the head of David Lee’s fundraising team and I encourage you to support a few of our local charities by voting early and voting often and voting for David Lee!

I really need to learn how to say NO…
