Lots of great stuff happening at GVMH

We are winding down Town Hall meetings at GVMH and I thought I’d share some of the high points for those staff who weren’t able to make one of the meetings and for those community members who regularly read this blog.

  • We are making strides with our partnership with the Studer Group.  The first step of the process is to create better and more effective leaders in the organization.  Improvement needs to be a top down process.  We have developed an objective evaluation system for organizational leaders and their annual evaluation will be tied to performance indicators that measure accomplishment of goals for their department.  Things like expense control, employee engagement, productivity and quality improvement will determine success.  We have also implemented leader rounding on staff to better gauge and respond to staff needs.  These are first steps along the journey but they are two important aspects of helping our organization improve.
  • We are in the process of finishing our audit for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2012.  Barring any major audit adjustments, we have had a great year financially and that success is shared with staff in a couple of different ways.  All staff will be eligible for merit increases on July 1, 2012.  The strength of our financial performance also means all staff will receive a retirement plan contribution of at least 4% of total salary.  We also anticipate an incentive bonus being paid to staff as well.  There are two parts to the incentive bonus.  First, we must have a total operating margin of 2% or better and we far exceeded that barring any surprise from the audit.  Second, we must show improvement in patient satisfaction in one of the following three areas; ED, Inpatient and/or Outpatient.  We had improvements in patient satisfaction in two of the three areas therefore staff are eligible for two-thirds of the total bonus.  The bonus will be paid to staff the first pay period in July.
  • Speaking of July…we will be expanding our Walk In Clinic in Clinton the second week of July to be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.  The Walk In Clinic is just that.  It is a walk in, first come, first serve, no appointment clinic to address minor illness and injury for all ages.
  • We host a number of visiting physician clinics in our Outpatient Treatment Center and demand for those services continues to increase.  We host a Pulmonology Clinic, Oncology Clinic, Cardiology Clinic and Urology Clinic.  The demand for these services has grown to the point that we need to expand the service offerings to meet community need.  In June, we will begin a renovation project in the Outpatient Treatment Center to update the area, create better patient flow and allow us to expand existing services and add new services to meet community needs.  We anticipate construction running through most of the summer but once complete we should see service offerings expand immediately.
