Patient safety is a priority at GVMH and our commitment to patient safety is being recognized by the Missouri Center for Patient Safety.
The GVMH Falls Prevention Team will be recognized with the Missouri Excellence in Safe Care Award by the Missouri Center for Patient Safety for the success of their “patient fall reduction initiative.” The award will be presented at the Annual Center for Patient Safety Conference (MOCPS) on April 17 in Columbia, Missouri.
Reducing falls and the potential for harm from falls to zero is the goal of the Falls Prevention Team. This is reflected in the Team’s mission statement, “To enhance the quality of care at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital by developing and implementing strategies to decrease the number of falls and injuries resulting from falls.” From 2006 through 2011, the collaborative effort by ALL staff has resulted in a 38.4% reduction in falls, with 19.7% of the reduction in falls being in the last 12 months.
The multidisciplinary Falls Prevention Team, comprised of Mark Mattes, Penny Andrews, Lonnie Carneal, Rachel Boyles, Amanda Lankford, Linda Jones, Cheryl Foster, Brenda Smarr and Dimple Jain, has worked very hard over the last six years to develop and implement multiple strategies to reduce falls.
Congratulations to the Falls Prevention Team and congratulations to all staff at GVMH, reaching a 38.4% reduction in falls is truly a collaborative effort by everyone and an accomplishment everyone should be proud of.
