10 more months

Happy Birthday GVMH.  On February 29, 1972 GVMH opened it’s doors to the community.  Over the past 40 years GVMH has been caring for it’s community.  Happy 40th or Happy 10th, either way Happy Birthday GVMH, here’s to another 40!

A few weeks ago I shared with you that if Congress didn’t take action soon, physicians were facing a 27.4% reduction in Medicare payments.  I also “hypothesized” at that time that during an election year there was no way Congress would touch physician salaries and that Congress would prevent the reduction.  I was right.

Physicians were granted a reprieve from Medicare payment reductions this week with the adoption of a 10-month moratorium on reimbursement cuts imposed by the Sustainable Growth Rate formula. It’s a temporary fix — not the permanent solution that the SGR system requires. However, in the short term, it will continue to provide predictability and stability in Medicare for the physician community.

The extension is in place through December 31, 2012 so you should expect to hear a lot about it once the election is decided in November.
