On Monday GVMH received an unannounced visit by several surveyors who will be staying with us the rest of the week to conduct a CMS Conditions of Participation Survey. The survey provides us the opportunity to showcase the great patient care we provide and our commitment to patient safety. We also have the opportunity to learn how to grow and improve – I promise at some point in the future when the surveyors are gone we will appreciate some of the things we learn from the experience!
For you GVMH staff who read the blog faithfully I’ll try to post topics of interest at the end of each day of the survey and real-time if possible. For you non-GVMH blog fans, you’ll gain some insight into hospital licensure surveys.
We all know that the number one thing we can do to protect our patients is wash our hands…the surveyors know it as well. The surveyors are focused on hand hygiene and I’d suggest that staff should be as well!
There’s been a lot of discussion about patient rights and how patients are informed of their rights. At GVMH patient rights are posted for public viewing in the admitting area and patient rights are found in the blue Guest Services Guide hanging in each patient room and found in each outpatient department. All GVMH staff should know how to locate a guest services guide.
Stay tuned, as the day progresses tomorrow I’ll try to post some real-time topics of interest as my schedule allows. I’m glued to the hip of one of the surveyors so when she wants to go somewhere – I go with her (I have been kind enough to allow her private restroom breaks!).
