Let me share a story of one of our staff members who is taking the term “On stage” to new extremes.
Ashley Smiley is a Hospitality Hostess in our FANS Department. Ashley’s role on the team is to deliver meals to patients in their rooms. We ask that our Hospitality Hostess’ deliver patient meals in a cheerful manner and with a smile on their face.
If you know Ashley you are very much aware that she has the smiling part down. One of our expected GVMH Staff Behaviors is “I acknowledge others, make eye contact and smile”. Ashley sets a great example for all of us in demonstrating this behavior. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Ashley when she wasn’t smiling.
One of the other GVMH Staff Behaviors that we expect of all staff is “I wear my ID badge where it can be easily read”. We require that staff have at least their first name on the badge and Ashley threw us for a loop when she requested that her first name be removed.
Ashley’s name badge now reads “Smiley” and I believe her badge is more reflective of her personality and the great example she sets for all of us each and every day and with every patient encounter. Ashley lives our Mission: To provide exceptional health and wellness services with friendliness and compassion.
Great job Ashley, thanks, and keep smiling Smiley!
